IGP Alok Mohan to undergo one-year course in foreign universities

Mangalore, Dec 12, 2011: Alok Mohan, who had taken over as the IGP of Western Range on Aug 26, 2010, has been transferred, and as part of his new post, he will do his Masters in Public Management at Harvard University and Singapore University for one year.

Addressing the press on Dec 12, he expressed his gratefulness to the people of DK for supporting him and helping him maintain law and order. He also confirmed that he will be trained in two universities for six months in each university and that he is the first police officer from Karnataka to get selected to undergo this course.

Stating that he is very much excited about the course, he said that it will train him to implement policy measures in society and that fellowship is provided by the universities. He also expressed hopes that this course will be as useful as the previous courses he had undergone in foreign countries.

Regarding the crime ratio in Mangalore, he said that chain snatching and robbery has reduced from 92 percent to 56 percent while cases of breaking into houses have reduced from 81 percent to 53 percent.

He suggested that police officers should be given Yoga and physical training to keep them fit and active and free from mental stress.

About Alok Mohan

Alok Mohan, who joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1987, has a public service experience of 23 years to his credit. He has served as the assistant superintendent and district superintendent in several districts across Karnataka and as the assistant inspector general of police at Bangalore and at Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at New Delhi.

He also served as the deputy inspector general of police, state CID Bangalore, joint police commissioner (crime) at Bangalore, inspector general of police (IGP) at Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF), and IGP (vigilance and enforcement) at KPTCL. He also held the post of the commander of the International Police Task Force (IPTF), UN Peace Keeping Operation in Bosnia Herzegovina.

He took the command course with the British Police and received the director general’s commendation disc, the UN Peace Medal, and the Police Medal from the President of India in recognition of his services in the police department.
