Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh told reporters at a press conference held in his chamber that the police have arrested Vasanth Kumar, Satish alias Putta, Yogesh, Mohandasa, and Dharmaprakash along with Kiran Johnson. The Tata Safari used for the kidnapping has also been seized.

Reportedly, Kiran wants to live with his wife, but Philomena has applied for divorce. The case has been in court for the past 5 years. Philomena had also lodged complaints against her husband twice or thrice, and each time, the police let him off with a warning.

Stating that Kiran is suffering from certain mental disorders, has a criminal mentality, and can turn quite dangerous, Singh said that the police will request the in-charge at Mphasis to provide additional security for Philomena during working hours, adding that the police are willing to provide security for her when she is at home.

He also said that the police will further investigate the case and find out everything about the people who indirectly supported Kiran by providing him food, shelter, money, and mobile phone. These people will be arrested to create awareness in the society that people must refrain from interfering in someone else’s domestic affairs.

Stating that the kidnap was planned well in advance, he said that the case was registered on June 20, Monday, adding that the PCR got the information late.

Inspector Manjunath Shetty guided the police rescue team comprising P. Subhash Chandra, Prakash, Vinay Gaunkar, and others.

Case background

Married to Kiran six years ago, Philomena spent a few months working at a private firm in Bangalore while her husband Kiran worked in Kuwait. Problems cropped up in their relationship when the couple moved to Mangalore, and a year later, they started living separately.

Philomena’s mother Winnie Serrao said that, Kiran, who had lost his Gulf job, began harassing his wife, beating her up, and demanding money from her. Philomena has already lodged 3 complaints at the local police station. This, however, did not deter Kiran, who began threatening Philomena and demanding that she withdraw the cases lodged against him.
