Mangaluru, June 15, 2025: Heavy rainfall has been lashing Dakshina Kannada district, causing flood-like conditions and triggering multiple incidents of wall collapses and tree uprootings.
In Kankanady’s Suvarna Lane area, a compound wall collapsed dramatically, an incident captured on a home CCTV camera. The wall fell across the road, damaging gates and walls of nearby houses. Luckily, no pedestrians or vehicles were on the road at the time, averting a potential tragedy.
In Belthangady Taluk, a tree fell on a moving scooter near Kukkaavu Koppada Gandi, injuring a couple identified as Gummanna and Vimala, residents of Ermale Palke in Kadirudhyavara village. With the help of locals, they were rushed to a private hospital in Ujire. Despite the severity of the incident, both escaped without major injuries.
Another wall collapse was reported near Soorya Narayana Temple in Maroli, Mangaluru, where the compound wall of Yamuna Residency crumbled, causing damage estimated in lakhs.
In response to the heavy rains, the management committee of Kadri Manjunath Temple has arranged lunch for affected residents. With water inundating homes across Mangaluru, many families have been unable to prepare meals. The temple has invited affected families to collect food for their members on Sunday.
Authorities continue to assess the situation as cleanup and restoration efforts are underway across the district.
