Furious mayor to sue errant TV news channels

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 21: Mayor Rajani Dugganna has decided to take action against a Kannada TV news channel for airing false news about the Suratkal police arresting her son Manjunath for illegally storing diesel. The same channel broadcast false news of police raiding the mayor’s house and finding a huge amount of illegal diesel stored there.

Verbally tearing the channel to shreds for airing wrong news about her family, the furious mayor said that, as soon as she heard about the false news being aired on the channel, she contacted the police and demanded an explanation. The police informed her that they had not raided the mayor’s house, but another house in the vicinity, at a distance of half a kilometer from the mayor’s house. She instructed the police to contact the news channel and clarify the issue. The mayor is furious about the fact that the news channel has wrongly reported that her son, who is currently undergoing treatment in Dharmasthala, has been arrested by the police.

TV news channels had also created confusion and alarm by reporting false news about the Mangalore – Doha flight escaping a major tragedy on the runway of the Mangalore International Airport recently.
