Mangalore, Dec 12: An event was organized at Holy Cross Church, also known as Cordel Church, Kulshekar, in honor of Fr. Alexandar Dubois, a French friar, who became very popular as Kullerda Ajjer and Frad Saib.
Fr. Andrew Leo D’Souza celebrated the Holy Mass on the occasion in the presence of Fr. Steven of Balayesu Church; Fr. John Gomes of Shaktinagar; Fr. Jesudas D’Costa, the assistant priest of Vamanjoor Church; Fr. Ronald Pinto, the assistant priest of Bondel Church; Fr. George D’Souza Kodialbail; Fr. Roshan, Fr. Arun, and Fr. Jose Baptist, the assistant priests of Kulshekar Church were also present.
Fr. Valerian Pinto, the chief priest of Kulshekar Church, felicitated Melwyn Rego, the donor, and proposed the vote of thanks. A grand procession of the “parama prasada” was organized from the church to Kalpane.
The tomb of Frad Saib, who was responsible for a number of conversions to Christianity during his life time, is located at a significant place in the church complex and is visited by people belonging to different religions. Some people even take some soil from his grave, believing that it will cure them of various illnesses. According to popular local legend, Frad Saib used to visit their homes during the evenings to recite the family rosary. Frad Saib is also responsible for spreading the devotion to the “Sacred Heart of Jesus” among the native people.
