Kundapur, September 18, 2025: Udaya Chathra (43), the proprietor of Siddapura Chathra Enterprises and resident of Baregundi, Kamalashile, was found deceased in his home on Tuesday, September 17, in an apparent death by suicide.
According to reports, Mr. Chathra had attended the annual general meeting of the Mananje Agricultural Service Cooperative Society in Kamalashile with his parents and wife in the morning. He later dropped them off at the meeting, stating he was en route to his business in Siddapura. However, he instead returned directly to his residence.
The family discovered the tragedy upon their return. Noticing his vehicle parked outside and the door still locked from the inside, they searched the home and found Mr. Chathra deceased in an upstairs room.
A well-regarded member of the community known for his soft-spoken and friendly nature, Mr. Chathra’s passing has come as a shock to relatives and associates. He was reportedly financially stable, with a successful business and agricultural land holdings, leaving no apparent motive for his extreme action.
He is survived by his parents, his wife, Akshara Chathra, and two school-aged children. The Shankaranarayana police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by Mrs. Chathra, and an investigation is underway.
