A case had been registered against Mahesh Shetty under charges of hate speech following an investigation by the Belthangady police. As he had failed to appear before the court, the Belthangady court had issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

Subsequently, Mahesh Shetty approached the Bantwal court seeking bail. Advocate Sirajuddin Jogibettu appeared on his behalf and presented arguments. After hearing the submissions, the court allowed the bail application and issued the order.
