Mangaluru, Sep 17, 2025: Dakshina Kannada District Congress President Harish Kumar has accused the BJP of attempting to mislead the public over the red laterite mining issue. He alleged that while the state government has already taken steps through the cabinet to resolve the problem, BJP MLAs are staging protests for political gain rather than out of genuine concern for the people.
Addressing a press conference, Harish Kumar said, “Instead of making baseless allegations against the Congress regarding mining, Dakshina Kannada’s MP could have taken concrete steps, such as pushing for relaxation of CRZ norms. People are suffering daily because of pothole-ridden national highways and unscientific works, yet the BJP-led central government has failed to act. BJP leaders should avoid playing politics in matters of development.”
Congress leader Padmaraj, who was also present, added that the caste census has been initiated by the government with the aim of achieving social justice. “The BJP is unnecessarily opposing it. Engaging in such politics even on development issues is not right,” he remarked.
Congress office bearers Shashidhar Hegde, Padmaraj, Mohammed Monu, Neeraj Chandrapal, and Shubhodaya Alva were present at the press meet.
