Mangaluru, Mar 8, 2026: Captain Brijesh Chowta laid the foundation stone for the construction of 11 Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres in Bantwal at Moodupadukodi, along with MLA Rajesh Naik on Saturday.
The centres are being established under the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission and the 15th Finance Commission Scheme to strengthen rural healthcare infrastructure.


Speaking on the occasion, Chowta said 124 Health and Wellness Centres have been sanctioned for Dakshina Kannada district, with 33 planned for Bantwal constituency. Construction has begun at 11 locations, while the tender process for the remaining centres is under way.
Each centre will be built at a cost of ₹65 lakh with a building area of about 2,000 sq. ft. The ground floor will house a clinic, wellness centre and day-care facilities, while the first floor will include residential quarters for the health officer.
Chowta said the initiative, supported by the Union government under Narendra Modi, aims to improve access to essential healthcare services in rural areas.
Across the district, over ₹80 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of the centres, including 18 in Puttur, 26 in Belthangady, 27 in Sullia, 33 in Bantwal, 12 in Moodbidri and eight in Mangaluru.
