Kapu, Nov. 30, 2025: Five people were killed after a goods tempo overturned on National Highway 66 near Kothalkatte, close to Kapu, on Saturday afternoon.
The vehicle was transporting decoration materials from Kapu Majoor to Malpe when the driver reportedly lost control. The tempo mounted the highway divider and toppled, leaving several occupants injured.

The deceased have been identified as Pappu Ravidas (28) and Harish (27) from Assam, Gapunath (50) from Tripura, and Kamal and Samaresh from West Bengal.
Twelve workers were travelling in the vehicle. While several sustained serious injuries, five of them died while being shifted to a private hospital in Udupi. Kapu police visited the spot and have launched an investigation into the incident.
