Thunderstorms, rain likely across coastal Karnataka from May 6: IMD

Mangaluru, May 5, 2026: The Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms and rain in the coastal region from May 6. On Tuesday, light rain is likely in parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. From Wednesday through the weekend, rainfall is expected across the coast, with increased intensity in the south interior regions. The department has also warned of the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and lightning during this period. Similar thunderstorm activity is likely in north interior Karnataka as well.

Rain


On Monday, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts experienced hot and humid weather. Although most coastal areas had cloudy conditions in the morning, no rainfall was reported. Meanwhile, light rain was recorded in parts of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar.

In Mangaluru, the maximum temperature was recorded at 34°C, which is 0.3°C below normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 26.1°C, which is 0.8°C above normal.
