Fire fighting personnel organizes mock drill to enhance awareness

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 22, 2012: The fire fighting personnel organized a mock drill to enhance awareness for the students of Padua Educational Institutions on Jan 21 Saturday. The fire fighters demonstrated exactly how they save people stranded in burning buildings, and the experience turned out to be quite a change from routine class room activities for the students.

Deekshita, a VIII Std student, who was one of those “rescued” from the third floor of the building, was quite thrilled with the experience and so were her classmates.

The fire brigade put up a flexible ladder to the third floor of the building, tied a safe knot around her, and rolled her down the rope to safety, after which she was rushed by ambulance to Lady Goshen Hospital for “treatment.” The entire mock drill turned out to be a great learning experience for the students.

Deekshitha admitted she was a bit scared at first, but soon got into the spirit of adventure.
The chief guest of this awareness event was K. A. Dayananda, the additional district commissioner. Fr. Antony Serrao, the correspondent of Padua Institution, delivered the welcome address.

H. S. Varadarajan, the chief fire officer, said that this mock drill will teach students how they ought to react in case of earthquakes and fire accidents. The demonstration taught them how to come out of the building safely and quickly.
