Mangalore, Jan 21:  Seemanth Kumar Singh, Comissioner of Police, Mangalore inaugurated International Kite Festival in Panabur beach today, at 3.30 PM, January 21, 2012. Hundreds of  kite enthusiasts from various walks of life had a gala time at Panambur beach witnessing the Kite Festival organized by Team Mangalore in association with ONGC - MRPL.

Seemanth Kumar Singh inaugurated the event by flying a Kite which was named "Police commissionerate, Mangalore city".  Speaking on the occasion Seemanth Kumar sing  described the festival as a unique experience to watch artistic kites soar high in the sky, taking the glorious friendship of nations to greater heights. He said the sports going back to ancient times represents man’s experiments with imaginations and reflects man’s tastes and culture.

Team from Holland, gave brief description about his kite, and Al-Farsi Team of Kuwait
presented the guest with a book with photos and details of their previous achivements and kites.

Looking at the kites, general public too bought some kites to fly from the sales outlet.
A clear sky, mild breeze with humidity in the air provided a perfect setting for hundreds of spectators to cheer 17 Kitists from 7 countries flying kites of different size and shape and myriad colours on Saturday evening.

The two-day festival will also witness some of the popular kites by Team Mangalore, like Yaksha, Kathakali, Bhoota Kola, Gajaraja and Pushpaka Vimana which have won them accolades in international kite festivals around the world. The team will also showcase its new ’Avatar Bird Kite’. A special attraction will be the night kite-flying event on Sunday at 7 pm, wherein kites will be flown amid high power lights.

Besides, there will be an exhibition of kites on the second day of the event on the theme ’My Kite to God’, featuring kites made by differently-abled children. Giridhar Kamath ,Sarvesh Rao, Dinesh Holla and Nithin Shetty of Team Mangalore were present on the occasion
