Mangaluru, Oct 27, 2025: Expert PU College, Kodialbail, held its much-anticipated Annual Sports Meet 2025 at Mangala Stadium on Sunday, October 26. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Shyam Bhat, Senior Vice President of Axis Bank, Mangaluru, who attended as the chief guest.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Bhat highlighted the importance of sports in shaping a well-rounded personality. “Sports are essential not just for physical fitness, but also for mental well-being,” he remarked. Drawing parallels between athletics and life, he spoke about how the experience of both victory and defeat fosters resilience and a deeper appreciation for success. He also emphasized the value of the “3 Ds” — Discipline, Dedication, and Determination — as key principles for achieving excellence in any field. Mr. Bhat officially declared the sports meet open.
Proceedings began with the formal assembly of athletes, followed by the arrival of dignitaries, including Vice Chairperson Dr. Ushaprabha N. Nayak, IT Head, Mr. Ankush N. Nayak, Yogarathna Gopalkrishna Delampady, and Principal Prof. Ramachandra Bhat.
A ceremonial march past by athletes representing their respective batches added colour and discipline to the occasion. Mr. Bhat hoisted the college flag, followed by a stirring rendition of the college anthem, which resonated with the spirit of the event.
The torch relay, performed by the college’s outstanding athletes, symbolized the flame of glory and honour. A symbolic release of balloons by the dignitaries further elevated the celebratory atmosphere.
Principal Prof. Bhat delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the day’s events. To uphold the values of fair play and integrity, Ms. Sthutishree, Vice-President of the college, led the oath-taking ceremony, with athletes participating wholeheartedly.
The inaugural ceremony was compered by Ms. Shwetha Suvarna, Head of the English Department.
The sports meet continued with a series of competitive events, celebrating athletic talent, teamwork, and the enduring spirit of students in various sports and games. The event also fostered a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among the students and staff.
With several fast-paced track events and engaging team events, the day was definitely not one to forget. The event was a great opportunity to celebrate the spirit of sports and the joy of learning.
The evening valedictory function brought the curtains down on the programme with grace and inspiration. The presence of Mr. Nithin Poojary, Physical Education Director, at SDM Polytechnic College, Ujire, as the chief guest. Recalling his student days spent training on the same grounds, he emphasized the long-term rewards of sports.
“Sports gave me recognition,” he said, sharing how his 16 years of being in sports and also representing India at the international level led to a direct appointment as a Postal Assistant, bypassing competitive exams. With heartfelt candor, he urged students to embrace physical activity whenever possible, while also cautioning them against distractions. “If you must give up something, let it be your mobile phone—not your education,” he advised.
The overall individual championship - boys went to Prathul DR from the C2 batch and for girls, Abhishta from the E2 batch. The overall championship was bagged by B2 batch.
The chief guest took part in lowering the flag, signalling the end of a memorable event. The eventful day came to an end with the resounding notes of the national anthem, bringing everyone together in the spirit of sport and unity.
The valedictory programme was compered by Ranjal Latha Shenoy, lecturer from the English Department. Pramod Kini, Programme coordinator of Sports Day, delivered the vote of thanks.
