Mangalore, Sep 29, 2013: Hundreds of people, both young and old alike actively took part in the World Heart Day Run-2013 organised by the KMC Hospital on September 29, Sunday to mark the World Heart Day. Vijay Bharadwaj, former cricketer and Secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, lit the athletes torch, while renowned athlete Shiny Abraham and Olympian high jumper Sahana Kumari flagged off the Run.
The Run passed through MG Road, PVS Circle and Bunts Hostel Circle before concluding at Ambedkar Circle.
Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo who addressed a function held in this connection said it is not enough to run merely on the World Heart Day. We need to have running and walking exercises as a routine affair as it is only a healthy life-style that can keep us physically fit.
State Health Minister UT Khader who also participated as a chief guest, stressed the need for a growing awareness among public on various diseases and preventive measures. He said the Health Department was contemplating to make PSA Test compulsory.
KMC Dean Dr M V Prabhu, Executive Director of Corporation Bank B K Srivastav, Dr Lakshmi Prabhu, Dr R L Kamath and others were present.
Prizes were awarded to the winners of various contests conducted as part of the Day. The Youngest and Oldest Participants were also honoured.
