He further informed that giving vaccinations for flu is no longer necessary, but companies have to market their products. The hospital staff is used as guinea pigs in medical experiments, he alleged.

He declared that the reason for the decline in the quality of medical education is the government’s provision of licenses to all private colleges. Besides, students can easily purchase medical degrees, owing to which the doctors trained in colleges are unable to provide any quality medical service to the people, he said. He also regretted that, although the centre has released Rs 1,300 lakh for Life Scheme, it is not being utilized for the welfare of the beneficiaries.

State Secretary of Asha Workers’ Association Dr Nagalakshmi was the chief guest of the programme. She said that government hospitals are gaining recognition owing to the service provided by Asha workers at villages. The infant and mother mortality rates were high, but now they have come down, she said, adding that the Asha workers bear the credit for this.

Secretary of UTUC K V Bhat and State Committee Member of All India Women’s Cultural Association Sandhya were the chief speakers. Yashodha Muralidhar presided over the programme.
