Diocese of Mangalore mourns the passing of Rev. Fr Vincent Francis Monteiro, aged 71

Mangaluru, Aug 29, 2025: The Diocese of Mangalore is deeply grieved to announce the passing of Rev. Fr Vincent Francis Monteiro, who entered eternal rest on Friday, August 29, 2025, at around 9:00 a.m. He was 71.

Born on July 24, 1954, at Angelore to Mr Raymond Monteiro and Mrs Christine Monteiro, Fr Vincent embraced his priestly vocation with great devotion and was ordained on April 22, 1981. Over 44 years of priestly ministry, he was known as a compassionate pastor, inspiring leader, and mentor to countless youth.

He began his priestly service as Assistant Parish Priest at Kirem (1981–1983) and later as Assistant Director at St Antony’s Charity Home (1983–1984). His passion for youth apostolate saw him serve as Director of ICYM/YCS/YSM, Mangalore (1984–1987), Regional Director (1987–1989), and later as National Director of YCS/YSM India (1989–1995).

Fr Vincent went on to serve as Parish Priest of Pangla (1995–2002), Director of the Pastoral Institute (2002–2004), and Asian Chaplain of YCS (2004). He pursued higher studies in the Philippines (2004–2006), after which he returned as Director of the Pastoral Institute, Mangalore (2006–2014). He later ministered as Parish Priest of Kinnigoly (2014–2018) and Bendur (2018–2024).

Due to ill health, he spent his final year at St Zuze Vaz Home, Jeppu, where he peacefully passed away.

Fr Vincent will be fondly remembered as a priest of deep compassion, a friend of the youth, and a visionary who dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the mission of the Church. His life of service will remain a source of inspiration for generations to come.

The Funeral Mass and Burial Rites will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia.
