Mangaluru, Apr 3, 2026: Churches across Dakshina Kannada marked Good Friday with deep devotion and solemn reflection on April 3, as the Christian community commemorated the passion and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
From early morning, large numbers of devotees gathered in their respective parishes to take part in the traditional Way of the Cross. At Milagres Church, Rosario Cathedral, and several other churches in the city, the faithful retraced Christ’s final journey to Calvary, offering prayers at each of the 14 Stations.

The atmosphere remained sombre, with many devotees dressed in black or muted colours, engaging in prayer, penance, and introspection. The Stations of the Cross served as a powerful reminder of Christ’s sacrifice, while clergy reflected on themes of unconditional love, forgiveness, and service.
In several parishes, the procession was held outdoors, with worshippers following a wooden cross through church premises and nearby streets, symbolising the path to Golgotha.
The main liturgical services are scheduled to begin at 4 pm in most churches. The evening observance—considered the most solemn of the year—includes the reading of the Passion of Christ from the Gospel of John, intercessory prayers, the unveiling and veneration of the Holy Cross, and the distribution of Holy Communion.
Observed as a day of fasting and abstinence, Good Friday sets a deeply reflective tone, leading up to the celebration of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
