CPM protests, demands Kidwai Cancer, Jayadeva Heart Hospital units in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, September 8, 2026: The Mangaluru City South Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a protest in front of the Mini Vidhana Soudha here on Monday, demanding the immediate establishment of government-run units of Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology and Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in Dakshina Kannada.

The protesters also demanded that government hospitals be strengthened and private hospitals be regulated.

Addressing the protest, CPM State Committee member Sunil Kumar Bajal criticised the State government’s decision to enter into contractual agreements with private hospitals to provide healthcare services to the public. He alleged that the move was aimed at weakening government hospitals and benefiting private healthcare institutions.

CPM city secretary Yogish Jappinamogaru urged the government to fulfil the long-standing demand of the people of Dakshina Kannada for better and affordable public healthcare facilities.

District committee member Santosh Bajal demanded that the government immediately cancel agreements that allegedly hand over government health centres, community health centres and taluk hospitals to private hospitals.

Former party secretariat members J. Balakrishna Shetty, Jayanthi B. Shetty, B.K. Imtiyaz, Pramila Shaktinagar, Srinath Katipalla, Dayananda Shetty and Abdul Tayyub also addressed the gathering.

The protest was led by Jayalakshmi Jappinamogaru, Shashidhar Shaktinagar, Dinesh Shetty, Deepak Bajal, Nagesh Kotyan, Bharathi Bolara, Ravichandra Konchady, Asha Bolur, Krishna Thanneerubhavi and Manoj Urvastor.
