Mangalore, March2, 2013 : Rajya Sabha Member and AICC General Secretary Oscar Fernandes released the Election Manifesto of the Congress Party at a function held in the city on March 1, Friday. The manifesto promises to develop  Mangalore into a model city.

The Election Campaign office of the party at Kadri was inaugurated on the occasion by senior Congress leader and former union minister Janardhan Poojari.


In his address, Poojari listed out the various schemes initiated by the Congress during its tenure in MCC in the past and  said the credit of upgrading the Mangalore Town Municipality into a City Corporation goes to the Congress. 


Even the first vented dam at Thumbay, setting up of the new departments at Wenlock and several other schemes are an achievement of the Congress, he said.


Poojari further said that  the Congress now aims at steering Mangalore on the path of further progress if elected to power.


He  said the Congress manifesto promises to complete the second vented dam at Thumbay at the earliest; to develop the roads of the city in better interests of the common man, to  provide incentives and encouragement to sports talents and to develop Mangalore into the second silicon city.


District Congress President B Ramanatha Rai, KPCC General Secretary Ivan D’Souza, former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, several Congress leaders including JR Lobo, BA Mohideen, Ibrahim Kodijal, Harikrishna Bantwal, Suresh Ballal, Kripa Alva were present.


The Congress Election Manifesto highlights :


1.       To complete construction of 2nd vented dam at Thumbay at the earliest.


2.        Development of prominent roads by making due provisions for  footpaths and storm water drains.


3.       To provide cable ducts for underground power lines and to ensure the beauty of the city.
4.        Construction of hi-tech  modern markets.


5.       Completion of underground drainage projects on a time bound manner.


6.       Construction of stadiums and a mega sports complex.


7.       Construction of Ambedkar Bhavan and Ranga Mandir.

8.        Developing Mangalore as the 2nd IT city of the state.


9.       Priority to tourism development.


10.    Introduction of JNNURM project in Mangalore.
