Bengaluru, Oct 2, 2026: Chamarajpet police have busted an inter-state counterfeit currency racket and arrested seven people while seizing 4,337 fake Rs 500 notes, officials said on Thursday.
The arrested have been identified as Murugeshan, Govindan, Lakshmana, Saravan, Satya, Krishna and Barkath, all from Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a car near a petrol bunk off the down ramp of the Mysuru Road flyover on September 14 and arrested two suspects. They seized 3,000 counterfeit Rs 500 notes, two mobile phones and the car.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly revealed that they were involved in printing and circulating counterfeit currency along with nine associates and provided information about them.
Based on the leads, police arrested two more suspects in Chennai on September 16 and three others in Ranga Reddy district of Telangana on September 18. Six mobile phones were seized from them.
Between September 24 and 25, police recovered another 1,337 counterfeit Rs 500 notes from a house in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu.
Police also seized equipment allegedly used for printing counterfeit currency, including a computer, laptop, laminator, colour printer, cutting machine, holograms and a photocopy machine.
The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 21 lakh, police said.
Efforts are underway to trace four other suspects allegedly involved in the racket. The seven arrested have been remanded in judicial custody, and further investigation is in progress.
