Kasaragod, Oct 3, 2026: Two migrant workers were killed after a borewell lorry lost control and overturned onto a roadside house near Varakkad Junction in West Eleri village in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Devendran from Madhya Pradesh and Manasir from Chhattisgarh. Both were working as labourers on the borewell lorry.
According to reports, the lorry was returning after completing borewell work when the driver lost control while negotiating a steep downhill stretch near Varakkad Junction. The vehicle overturned and crashed onto a house belonging to Jason, located beside the road.
The two workers travelling in the lorry sustained severe injuries in the accident and died while being taken to hospital.
A portion of the house’s roof collapsed in the impact. However, Jason and his family members, who were inside the house at the time, escaped unhurt.
A major tragedy was reportedly averted as the heavy crane section of the lorry became lodged against the side of the terrace, preventing further damage to the house.
Police and rescue personnel reached the spot and cleared the overturned vehicle. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
