Congress demands inquiry into Pakistani flag hoisting incident

Mangalore, Jan 20, 2012 : The district unit of the Congress Party organized a protest in front of the DC’s office on January 20 Friday, during which they demanded an investigation into the incident in which a Pakistani flag was hoisted on the premises of a government building in Sindhagi, Bijapur. They also waved black flags.

In his protest address, MLA Ramanath Rai, the president of the district Congress, said that the public has the right to know the names of the leaders who masterminded this attempt to disturb the communal peace of the area. He also warned people to remain alert against such attempts to divide society on the basis of religion.

Flaying the police department, he said that they were afraid to act against the top leaders of right-wing organizations.

MLA Abhayachandra Jain, speaking on the occasion, said that the home minister is apathetic toward the incident, owing to which he is not ordered a probe into the matter.

Ivan D’Souza, the vice president of the district Congress, alleged that the state government was misusing its administrative powers to protect those responsible for this act.


MLA U. T. Khader, Congress Minority Cell President Moideen Bawa, former MLA Vijayakumar Shetty, member Suresh Ballal, leaders Praveen Chandra Alva and Mithun Rai, ZP member Mamatha Gatti, and many other corporators were also present.
