Udupi, Dec 6, 2011 : The CPI (M) organized its 4th district convention on Dec 4 – 5, as part of which a mega rally was held from the service bus stand to Lions Bhavan in Brahmagiri, the venue of a public meeting, scheduled for Dec 5, 4:30 p.m.
G. V. Shriram Reddy, the former MLA, said in his address that Karnataka is the number-one corrupt state in India and that fighting against corruption in various state departments is the need of the hour. Speaking about the importance of support from regional parties in this regard, he said that the party opposes the union policies, which are responsible for hikes in the prices of essential commodities.
One of the resolutions passed at the convention was to urge the state as well as central governments to take action against UPCL as per experts’ opinions, to complete the Varahi irrigation project, to rejuvenate the Brahmavar Sugar Factory, to start inter-city train services, to raise a seawall to check erosion, and to allot houses to the needy.
CPI (M) workers such as Vishwanath Rai, Adamar Sripathi Acharya, Dasa Bhandary, K. Shankar, Venkatesh Koni, Vittal Poojary, Ramesh Mendon, and Rajeev Padukone were also present.
