Mijar, Feb 15, 2012: Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Kreedotsava-2 will be held on 17th, 18th and 19th February 2012 in the fields adjacent to Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple, Badaga Yedapadav, Mijar, Mangalore. The much awaited event has evoked very good response from the village sports enthusiasts of coastal Karnataka with more than 2500 entries involving 4000 players.

 

Sri D. V. Sadananda Gowda, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka has graciously consented to inaugurate this rural sports meet on 17th February at 7:30 a.m. There will also be entertainment programmes every evening at 7:30 p.m., with Magic Show by Mega Magic Star Ganesh Kudroli on 18th February and Music Concert by the famous singer Raghu Dixit on 19th February. Other celebrities attending the event during the three days are hockey legend Dhanraj Pillai and film stars Shivadwaj, Pakhi Hegde on on 17th February; Ramya Barna on 18th February and Diganth, Aindrita Ray on 19th February.

 

 

“We are thrilled by the unprecedented response which has far exceeded last year’s record,” said Sri Vijaynath Shetty, the chief organizer of the Kreedotsava. After the success of the Kreedotsava last year, the organizers have included many more games to reach out to more number of village people. This year there will be competitions in 40 games spanning 64 categories with prize money aggregating to over Rs. 9 lakhs along with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. The total budget has been increased to Rs. 65 lakhs.

Background & Objective:
As Gandhiji rightly said, India lives in villages. A majority of our population reside in rural areas, but development is yet to reach their door steps. If India has to achieve balanced growth, no village should be neglected and we should invest in their growth. Hence the objective of organizing the Kreedotsava is to boost the rural community life.

 

Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple is a 1500 year old shrine and the deity represented by three lingams on single platform is a unique feature of the temple. Following the total renovation and Brahmakalashotsava celebration in 2010, the temple has taken unique initiatives for upliftment of the village and for boosting the rural community life of Tulunadu region under the leadership of Sri Vijaynath Shetty.

His vision and initiative have resulted in organizing village sports events such as Kreedotsava, Halli Kabaddi, Halli Cricket and Halli Marathon along with community development activities like Children’s Camp and Womens’ Camp (for Mothers) with great success. “Our objective is to celebrate folk culture and infuse confidence among the rural community. Village games are embedded with traditional wisdom and we should recognize this as a valuable heritage,” Says Vijaynath Shetty.

Though this is temple based event, in the true spirit of universal brotherhood of mankind, national integration and social harmony, entry is open to people belonging to all castes, communities or religions spanning all categories like men, women, children, couples, senior citizens and nobody is left out.

The Games:
Kesarugadde Ota (Slush field Race), Kesarugadde Hagga Jaggata (Tug of War), Kasarugadde Nidhi Shoda, Naisargika Dehardadya (Natural Body Building), Cycle Race, Patreyalli Neeru Thumbuvudu (Filling Water in Vessel) etc which were popular last year will be continued this year too. This apart, interesting new items like Paduke Ota (Cater Pillar Race), Marakalu Ota, Angai Kalaga (Arm Wrestling), Kasarugadde Jana Kambala, Theppangai, Jataka Ota, Kutti Donne, Kothlai Bhandi etc are added so bring variety and attract more types of talent.

The objective of organizing the Kreedotsava is to boost the rural community life. Hence we have different items to appeal to all types of people and attract maximum involvement. To encourage families to participate we have couples-only games like Pathi Shoda and Jodi Kesarugadde Ota. For the children we have drawing competition, tyre race etc. There are also exclusive senior citizens categories for many of the games so that the elderly people too can take part.

Animal husbandry is a part of village life and many people are passionate about it. For such people we have events like Alankrata Dhana (Best Decorated Cow) and Ati Sundara Koli (Best Looking Cock). We have also introduced Koli Ota, an innovative type of non violent cock race. Other types of rural talents that will be tested include Rangoli, Mundasu Kattuvudu (turban tying), Beedi Rolling, Mudi Kattuvudu (Mudi Rice Packing) and Thengina Gari Vinyasa (Coconut Leaf Design).

Response:
The Kreedotsava has evoked very good response from the people. We have received total of 2560 entries involving participation by over 4000 players. Following are the number of entries for some of the games: (a) Kori Ota: 93; (b) Arm Wrestling 101; (c) Coconut throw: 28; (d) Tug of war: 60; (e) Kesargadde Senior Citizen Race: 32; (f) Kesargadde Couples race: 30; (g) Mask Race: 50; (h) Gombe Ota: 50; (i) Artificial Cow Race: 36; (j) Talent Show: 71.

Dress Code:
In line with the theme of village games, dress code is compulsory for all the players, with male players having to wear lungi and while the female players have to wear saree / churidar. Though there is no compulsory dress code for children, they are encouraged to wear traditional dress and live up to the spirit of the occasion.

‘Best Village’ trophy:
In order to foster village identity and encourage the villagers to come together with ‘We’ feeling, a ‘Best Village’ trophy will be given to the village scoring the highest number of points based on the wins the villagers have earned in the different sporting events. The trophy comprises of cup and attractive prize money of Rs. 1,00,000 and Rs. 50,000. 

Manassuda Ullasogu Bodad Enchinala Malpuva:
A special attraction is ‘Manassuda Ullasogu Bodad Enchinala Malpuva’, which is a talent show, where any individual or group having a special talent in any field may perform before the judges panel. This contest, which similar to Sony TV’s ‘Entertainment Ke liye Kuch Bhi Karega’, will be staged on 17th February 7:30 p.m. onwards and the prize money is Rs. 25,000/-  Cinestars Shivadwaj and Pakhi Hegde will be the judges for the contest. Having her roots in Dakshina Kannada at Inna near Padubidri, Ms. Pakhi Hegde has brought glory to our land by becoming a successful and popular actress in Bhojpuri films, besides Hindi, Marathi films and TV serials.

Entertainment Programmes:
There will also be entertainment programmes every evening including a Magic Show by Mega Magic Star Ganesh Kudroli for two and half hours on 18th February 7:30 p.m. onwards. Singer Raghu Dixit will be giving a live concert on 19th February 7:30 p.m. onwards.

Ganesh Kudroli has brought fame to Mangalore by innovating his performances with cultural elements of Tulunadu such as Bhootha Kola and performing in TV shows like India’s Got Talent where he was a finalist and also on many national and international platforms. He will be performing live with his ‘Vismaya Magic Troupe’.

Singer Raghu Dixit is famous for popularizing fusion of folk and pop music, thereby creating a new genre in Kannada popular music. He has initiated ‘The Raghu Dixit Project’, which is an open house for musicians and artistes from different genres to come together, collaborate and create a dynamic sound and expression. Though a gold medalist in Masters in Microbiology and a proficient Indian classical dancer (Vidwat in Bharatanatyam), Raghupathy Dixit is now known more as a self-taught guitarist-singer-composer-songwriter-musician. As the founder-front man of his band Antaragni for more than eight years, and now of The Raghu Dixit Project, Raghu has performed more than 250 concerts all over India.

Any other additions to the entertainment programmes will be announced on 17th February morning after the inauguration.

Sadananda Gowda, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka has graciously consented to inaugurate Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Kreedotsava on 17th February 2012 at 7:30 a.m. Being a proud son of our district, he deserves all our support in his endeavour to provide leadership to our state and we appeal to people to make this event a success by attending the inauguration ceremony and participating in the Kreedotsava in large numbers. Hockey legend Dhanraj Pillai will also attend the inauguration function.   

    

Transport:
On all 3 days, free bus services will be provided from Yedapadavu to Temple from the morning and from temple to Yedavpadavu, Moodbidri and Mangalore at night after games and functions are over.  The temple is also at a walking distance from Mijar-Baithari bus stop.
