Moodbidri, July 30, 2013 : Santosh Das alias Ghanashyam Das (34), the prime accused in the case of the burglary of antique idols worth several crores of rupees from the Siddantha Darshana Mandir of Moodbidri, was produced before the Moodbidri court on July 29, Monday.
He was remanded to police custody for ten days. Santosh Das was arrested at Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh on July 27, Saturday.
Earlier Santosh Das whose face was covered, was brought to the Kere Basadi and from there taken towards the Guru Basadi. The accused then took the police towards a small lane close by Dhavala College and showed a broken pipe and said it was left behind by him after the theft. Reliable information said he was making contradictory statements.
In the meantime, the police have also enquired the manager of the Jain Mutt. But there is no information as to yet regarding the outcome.
The police have already arrested Santosh’s wife and father-in-law from Bhubaneshwar on the charges of abetting the crime. Both of them are in judicial custody.
