Bantwal: Body of elderly man missing for 10 days found in well

Bantwal, December 26, 2025: The body of an elderly man who had been missing for the past 10 days was found in a well at Vittal on December 25.

The deceased has been identified as Poovappa Poojary (65) of Kallamajalu in Kolnadu village. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

According to sources, Poovappa left his house on December 15, informing his family that he would return shortly. However, he failed to come back, following which a missing complaint was registered at the Vittal police station.

Despite extensive efforts by family members, relatives, and friends to trace him, his whereabouts remained unknown. On Thursday, his body was discovered in a 60-foot-deep well at an unoccupied house in Kallamajalu, Kolnadu village.

Murali Vittal, a member of the Friends Vittal team, descended into the well and assisted in retrieving the body. The Vittal police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
