Calling for a shift in the state’s political discourse, Annamalai said politics should be centred on the common man and focused on bringing meaningful change.

“We have to come out of one individual-driven politics. We need common-man politics," he said.

Highlighting his long-standing engagement with politics, he said, “Today, I am 42 years old, and for the past 17 years I have been fighting for a new political alternative and meaningful change."

The former BJP leader said his departure should not be viewed as a confrontation, adding, “It is part of Tamil culture to part ways respectfully after expressing one’s views."

‘New Movement, New Dimension In Politics To Begin’

Signalling his future plans, Annamalai declared, “A new movement and a new dimension in politics, emerging from our core principles, is about to begin." He added that his focus would remain on the state’s development, saying, “We have to take Tamil Nadu forward."

Annamalai said that the political movement he is about to launch should be guided by the “very spirit and principle".

“The movement we are about to launch must be guided by that very spirit and principle," he said.

Recalling a personal moment from his entry into the BJP, Annamalai said, “When I joined the BJP, Rajinikanth personally congratulated me and wished me well on my political journey."

“Just a day before I formally joined the BJP, Rajinikanth invited me to become a part of his movement. However, I eventually chose to join the BJP and continued my political journey there," he added.

‘Will Contest Next General Elections’

Annamalai further announced that he will contest the next general elections independently. “I will contest the next general elections independently. We are going to view BJP the same way we view DMK, AIADMK, TTV, Vaiko, and Seeman," he said.

His remarks came shortly after the BJP formally accepted his resignation, bringing an end to his six-year association with the party.
