Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, May 3, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday, May 2, demanded National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the killing of murder accused Suhas Shetty on Thursday at Bajpe besides demanding adequate compensation to his family.

Stating that the BJP would pay ₹25 lakh to Shetty’s family, Karnataka BJP unit president B.Y. Vijayendra urged the government to compensate the family for the untimely death. Speaking to reporters after paying last respects to Shetty at his native village Karinja in Bantwal taluk before the cremation, Mr. Vijayendra said prima facie the murder appeared to be pre-planned.

BJP

He alleged that Hindu leaders were being murdered continuously after the Siddaramaiah government assumed the office. The BJP would hold State-wide protest condemning such attacks, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashoka alleged it has become a precedent that whenever Siddaramaiah becomes the Chief Minister, Hindu activists would get murdered. Not only the assailants of Shetty, but also those behind the murder should be brought to book, he said.

Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta in a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanded NIA probe into Suhas Shetty’s murder. The murder highlights weakening law and order situation in the coast and raising of Islamic fundamentalism. Earlier too, banned Popular Front of India activists had murdered BJP activist Praveen Nettaru, he recalled adding the Thursday’s murder indicates the banned organisation remaining active. Everyone, right from the assailants to their handlers, should be brought to book.

Body shifted

Earlier, Shetty’s body was shifted from the hospital in Mangaluru to Karinja by an ambulance. Enroute, people had gathered to pay last respects to the slain former Bajrang Dal activist at Farangipet, Thumbe, Kadegoli, B.C. Road, Bantwal, and Vagga.

Bantwal MLA Rajesh U. Naik alleged that the murder indicated collapse of law and order in the State. The fact that Shetty was hacked to death in front of several onlookers in a busy area shows administration’s weakness.

Several leaders of BHP and BJP, including Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal, Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, Y. Bharath Shetty, Vedavyasa Kamath, Bhagirathi Murulya, Harish Poonja, Yashpal Suvarna, Kishor Kumar Puttur, Arun Kumar Putthila and others were present at the funeral.
