Mangalore, February 21: “Serving special children is greater than offering poojas in temples,” said District-in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar after inaugurating “Vishishta Mela,” a special programme for differently abled children, organized by Asha Jyothi at Canara High School, Dongerkery, on Feb 21, Sunday. The minister expressed his appreciation for the services rendered by Asha Jyothi, which is a unit of Seva Bharathi.

He said that no job can surpass the purity and piety of the job of serving special children. He also assured the organization the complete support and cooperation of the state government.

M Shankar Bhat, the mayor of Mangalore, presided over the inaugural ceremony. B R Bhat, the general manager of Corporation Bank, and Shakunthala A, the deputy director of Women and Child Welfare Department, were the chief guests of the event.

Kumari Kasturi marked the beginning of the programme with a prayer song. B Srinivasa Rao, the former headmaster of Canara High School, welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests. The highlight of the event was a special speech delivered by Sunil Raj, a differently abled person, in which he shared his experiences with the audience.

At the end of the formal function, a cultural programme was held for the disabled children.
