Mangaluru, Jul 27, 2026: Thirty-five passengers had a narrow escape after a private express bus crashed into a cement barricade near the under-construction toll plaza at Sooralpadi on the Mangaluru–Moodbidri stretch of National Highway 169 on Sunday, July 26.
According to reports, the bus was travelling from Karkala to Mangaluru when the driver swerved to the right to avoid colliding with a tipper lorry that suddenly turned left near Sooralpadi. The bus subsequently rammed into roadside cement barricades.
The impact severely damaged the front portion of the bus. The driver and one or two passengers sustained minor injuries. Local residents rushed to the scene, administered first aid, and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police from the Bajpe station visited the accident spot and have registered a case. An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
