Mangaluru, May 3, 2025: In the wake of recent communal tensions, State Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara on Saturday announced the formation of a dedicated Anti-Communal Task Force for the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The initiative aims to uphold peace and prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the communally sensitive coastal belt.
"The task force will be modelled on the lines of the Anti-Naxal Force and will be operational within a week," Dr. Parameshwara stated. He added that the unit will be empowered with full legal authority to act decisively against individuals involved in communal activities, including instigators and their supporters.
“This special unit will have a clear mandate to initiate strong legal action against anyone engaging in or abetting communal violence. All legal powers necessary for this will be vested in the task force,” he affirmed.
The minister emphasized that officials have already been instructed to initiate legal proceedings against those delivering provocative speeches or making inflammatory public statements.
“We will deal with such elements with an iron hand,” Dr. Parameshwara warned, reiterating the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining communal harmony and public order in the region.
He further stressed that the government remains alert and will act swiftly to curb any attempt to disturb peace. “Our top priority is to ensure that this region remains peaceful and inclusive. We are determined to prevent the recurrence of communal incidents at all costs.”
Law enforcement agencies have also been directed to take strict action against individuals involved in spreading divisive rhetoric. “Law and order will be upheld firmly and without compromise,” he asserted.
In a related development, the minister noted that the government is considering a phased withdrawal of the Anti-Naxal Force, citing the absence of Naxal activity in the state.
