Six arrested for slaughter of cow in Brahmavar

Udupi, July 1, 2025: The Brahmavar police in Udupi district have arrested six persons on the charge of illegally slaughtering a cow on June 28. The police identified the arrested persons as Rama, 49; Prasad, 21; Naveen, 35; Keshav Naika, 50; Sandesh, 35; and Rajesh, 28. Search is on for the seventh person allegedly involved in the case. The police seized a scooter and a car used by the accused. All six arrested persons were produced before the jurisdictional magistrate.


Cow slaughter


In a statement, the police said that on June 28, the severed head and skin of a cow were found discarded near an autorickshaw stand in Aroor village. The Brahmavar police registered a case under Sections 4, 5, and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, as well as Section 303(1) (theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Four teams of police were formed to trace the accused, it said.

After going through CCTV camera images and tracking the movement of vehicles, the police identified the accused persons and arrested six of them. 

The accused stole the cow and got it slaughtered. While taking the slaughtered material in their vehicles, its severed head and the skin fell off on the road, the police stated.
