Former St Aloysius College principal Fr Swebert D’Silva passes away at 68

Mangaluru, Nov 20, 2025: Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ, former principal of St Aloysius College, passed away following a massive cardiac arrest. He was 68.

Fr D’Silva served as the principal of St Aloysius College from 2007 to 2017, playing a key role in strengthening both academic standards and administrative systems at the institution.

He also served as rector and pro-chancellor of St Joseph’s University, Bengaluru, and previously held the position of director at St Joseph’s College of Law.

A native of Udyavar in Udupi district, he completed his schooling there before pursuing a BSc at St Aloysius College, Mangaluru. He later obtained an MSc from Loyola College, Chennai, and an MPhil from Madras Christian College, Tambaram. He pursued theological studies at Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pune, and philosophy at Sacred Heart College, Satya Nilayam, Chennai.

At the time of his passing, he was serving as the director of Arrupe Nivas, Bengaluru.

With decades of dedicated service in the field of education, Fr D’Silva was widely respected as a distinguished and transformative educationist.
