Mangaluru: Accused who sheltered Sukananda Shetty’s killers arrested after 19 years on the run

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Nov 20, 2025: In the 2006 murder case of Sukananda Shetty near Hosabettu in the Surathkal police limits, Kabir and his associates had allegedly murdered Shetty and fled the scene. Kabir, the prime accused, was reportedly given shelter for two days by brothers Latif Addoor and Abdul Salam Addoor, residents of Addoor, at a house in the Addoor Tibet Colony. The duo allegedly helped him evade the police and later dropped him near Kasaragod in Kerala, after which they themselves went into hiding.

Among them, Abdul Salam (47), who has now been arrested, had left the country three months after the incident and had been absconding for 19 years. Since he failed to appear before the court and avoided arrest, the charge sheet in the case had been submitted without him.

Police recently received information that Abdul Salam was residing within the Bajpe police limits. On November 18, around 8 pm, he was traced and taken into custody from Kinnipadavu in Bajpe.

He had obtained a passport in 2007 and lived abroad for several years before returning recently. After demolishing his house in Addoor, he began living in a rented house in Kinnipadavu, Bajpe. His brother Latif Addoor continues to remain abroad and absconding. In this case, 16 of the accused have already been arrested earlier, while 11 others are still absconding.

A case of attempted murder is already registered against Abdul Salam at the Bajpe police station, and he has been listed in the station’s rowdy-sheet. Multiple warrants had been issued by the court over the years due to his failure to appear. A fresh case under Section 209 of BNS has now been registered, and he has been produced before the court.

The arrest operation was conducted under the guidance of Assistant Commissioner of Police (North Sub-Division) Srikant K., along with Police Inspector Pramod Kumar P., PSI Raghunayak, and station staff Annappa, Ajith Mathew, Rajendra Prasad, Vinod Naik, and Sunil Kusanale.
