Udupi, Dec 19, 2013: Members of the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organised a protest near Clock Tower in the town on December 18, Wednesday opposing the moves of the state government in implementing the Karnataka Professional Educational Instructions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fee) Act 2006.
It may be recalled here that the government was contemplating to bring the act into force from 2014-2015.
The protestors said the implementation of the Act would hit hard the student community and would also deprive needy students of a seat under government quota in unaided colleges. Moreover it would also make it compulsory for students to appear for COMED-K entrance exams if they wish to get seats in private college.
The protestors further said once the act is implemented then the government norms will not be applicable to unaided colleges.
The ABVP pressurised the government to go back on its decision in the best interests of the student community.
