Mangalore, Oct 9, 2013 : A case of cheating as many as 21 Gulf job aspirants after promising lucrative jobs in Dubai, has been reported of late. Of the 21 victims, nine have returned hometown utterly disappointed.
One of the affected person Jagadish Murdeshwara narrated the case. According to him, a company in Mangalore had promised good job with good wages (around 1550 dinars) with boarding, lodging and Additional allowance for OT and had collected Rs 45000 for Visa, Rs 4000 for Emigration and Rs 3000 for medical check-up. Each person had thus spent upto Rs 90,000. According to Jagadish they had left for Abu Dhabi on September 17 where they were given work in a dates company and made to work from 8 am to 8 pm. They were even shown a room as accommodation, but within no time, a person summoned them to the office where they were instructed to head towards Abu Dhabi in a lorry.
“The next day being a holiday we remained confined to a room and on Saturday we were asked to report to duty at 5 am. As we were unaware of the timings and were not ready we said we would report to duty the next day. But our pleas went unheard and we were forcibly taken in a vehicle resembling a lorry and were given sapling planting works on roadside,” he said.
“When we said we were brought here for office work and refused to do the planting work, we were driven out. We were on the streets when a man, possibly a Pakistani pitied us and provided us 100 dirhams and thus saved us from starving to death. Finally we contacted the Indian embassy and have returned with their help.
Jagadish most of them used to earn at least Rs 10,000 per month in India and had left overseas hoping to make good money. It is learnt, 12 more are still in Abu Dhabi.
Those who have returned are Abdul Javed(23) of Koppa, Manohar Kairoch (28), Jagadish Murdeshwar (25) of Honnavar, Ashraf Mohammad (33) of Ullal, Rahim (35) of Murdeshwar, Basheer Mohammad (30) of Uppinangady, Naushad Ullal (30), Zakaria Hussain of Padubidri and Raghava Poojari of Kundapur.
