Karnataka CM changed due to public anger: PM Modi targets Congress

Mangalore Today News Network

Gujarat, June 6, 2026: Days after the leadership change in Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused the Congress of creating chaos and uncertainty, claiming that public resentment was growing in states governed by the party.

Addressing a gathering in Surat, Modi said, “There is a lot of anger among people in Karnataka, which is why Congress had to change the chief minister.”

The Prime Minister was in Gujarat to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for development projects worth more than ₹18,000 crore.

During his speech, Modi also defended the Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative and criticised those who, he said, continue to mock the programme. He accused the Congress of attempting to gain political advantage by fostering instability over the past 12 years.

“For the past 12 years, the Congress has been seeking opportunities by spreading chaos and uncertainty, but the people of the country have repeatedly given it a fitting reply,” he said.

Taking aim at critics of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Modi remarked that some people consistently belittle the country’s push for self-reliance.

“These are the very people who have always kept India dependent on other nations. They fail to realise that a country dependent on others can never attain the heights of development it truly deserves,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of energy security amid ongoing global challenges, the Prime Minister said India has significantly strengthened its energy capabilities since 2014.

“On one hand, we secured oil and gas supplies from various parts of the world, and on the other, we increased investment in renewable energy to historic levels,” he said.
