Kundapur: Two arrested in house burglary case; gold and silver worth Rs 11 lakh recovered

Kundapur, Jun 6, 2026: Kundapur police have arrested two persons in connection with a house burglary reported at Neralakatte in Karkunje village.

The arrested accused have been identified as Vijay Shetty (32), a resident of Tantrady in Kaduru village of Brahmavar, and Arjun Poojary (29), a resident of Indaru in Karkala.

According to police, burglars broke into the house of Niranjan Bhat at Neralakatte in Karkunje village on May 23 and decamped with gold, silver and cash. A case was registered at the Kundapur Rural Police Station.

During the investigation, police took Vijay Shetty into custody on June 3 and recovered 66.22 grams of gold and 175.4 grams of silver worth approximately ₹9 lakh from him.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Arjun Poojary, from whom police recovered 18.2 grams of gold valued at around ₹2 lakh.

The accused were produced before a court. Police said the prime accused, identified as Ashraf, is absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Kundapur DySP H.D. Kulkarni and Circle Inspector Santosh A. Kaikini. The investigation team included Kundapur Rural Police Sub-Inspectors Niranjan Gowda and Chandrakala Pattar, along with personnel from Kundapur, Shankaranarayana, Amasebailu, Kollur and Byndoor police stations.
