Mangalore, Jan 16, 2012: A colorful parade by the young people who participated in the 17th edition of the National Youth Festival (NYF) marked the beginning of its valedictory ceremony, which was held at Mangala Stadium on Jan 16 Monday. The procession truly illustrated the theme of the event “celebrating diversity in unity.”

This five-day national event was organized jointly by the government of Karnataka, the central government, the Nehru Yuva Kendra Organization, and the Rashtriya Seva Yojana.

In his emotional valedictory address, CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda said that elected representatives, the district administration, and the media had jointly made the event a great success. Expressing his appreciation of the people of Mangalore, he said that they have the ability to conduct not just national, but also international events.

Expressing his gratitude to those who provided venues such as Kadri Temple Hall, Town Hall, Guruvana at Jeppinamogaru, and others free of cost for the events of the NYF, the chief minister said that the state government had generously supplied funds for the event. Further, he promised that he will earmark funds to organize many more youth festivals in the state.

Stating that almost every event organized as part of the NYF, including the adventure sports at Jeppinamogaru, the food festival, the art fair, the competitive and non competitive events, and many others were a huge success, he said that all the events showcasing the culture of Tulunadu were a great hit.

Speaking about the diverse cultures and traditions of India, he said that over the five days people all over India and the SAARC countries have witnessed the concept of celebrating diversity in unity coming to life through this event. The CM expressed his happiness at seeing youth from all over India, from diverse cultures and backgrounds, coming together and sharing their experiences together, proving that India truly practiced unity in diversity.

He also expressed hopes that the youth of today will build tomorrow’s nation and said that the need of the hour was to organize many such youth festivals and provide an opportunity for the youth to grow, discover their roots, showcase their talents, and build their self-confidence. He declared that his government is committed to provide many such opportunities for the youth.

He said that the government of Karnataka has always been generous in allotting funds for the development of infrastructure under the department of youth services and sports. Further, he promised that his government will revamp all the existing schemes and will introduce new programs for youth development. The Youth Rally will be modeled along the lines of the youth festivals and more events and competitions will be introduced into it. Training programs will be held to assist the youth imbibe the values of Swami Vivekananda. He also said that the Youth Week will be celebrated in a very meaningful way in future.

The CM also congratulated the winners of various events and all the participants for showcasing their talents. He concluded by wishing all the young people a bright future and expressing his gratitude to everybody responsible for making the event a grand success.

I. R. Perumal, the principal secretary of the department of youth services, delivered the welcome address while Aparna and Shankar Prasad were the MCs of the event. The chief guest of the occasion was Ajay Maken, the union minister of state for youth affairs and sports.

Among the dignitaries on the dais were District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Deputy Speaker N. Yogesh Bhat, Arjuna Award winner M. P. Ganesh, Dhyand Chand Award winner Uday K. Prabhu, DC Dr. Channappa Gowda, MLC Ganesh Karnik, Coastal Development Authority Chairman B. Nagaraj Shetty, and ZP President Shailaja Bhat.

Karnataka bags Eight prizes:
Mangalore, January 16: Karnataka, which is the host of 17th edition of National Youth Festival, has emerged victorious in a number of competitive events. It has bagged first prizes in events such as Folk Song, Kuchipudi, Classical Vocal Hindustani and Sitar.

Karnataka also bagged second prizes in events like Classical Dance-Bharathanatyam, Classical Vocal Carnatic and third prizes in Harmonium (Light) and Tabla.
