Mangaluru, Mar 01, 2024: ’NITTE NAMASTE CONCLAVE 2024’- a National Conference on Health, Food Security and Environment in North-east India: Issues and Challenges, sponsored by the National Fisheries Development Board is hosted at Nitte (Deemed to be University)  on 1 and 2 March 2024.

The Conclave was inaugurated in the august presence of Shri N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte DU. The chief guest for the event, Prof Dr L Narasimha Murthy, Chief Executive, National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad commended the university for initiating this conference as it is the right theme at the right time considering the current challenges faced. The conference is co-convened by the Central  Agricultural University and Tripura University.  Prof. (Dr.) Shantibala, Deputy Director of Research, Central Agricultural University, Imphal emphasised the need for enthusiastic collaborative  research. Prof Samir Kumal Sil, Tripura University exemplified how collaborative research efforts can attain solutions to healthcare and environmental challenges.

Nitte (Deemed to be University) established the NAMASTE Centre for Studies on North East states in the year 2015 to foster national cultural and emotional integration with a focus on the North-Eastern states. A tribute was offered to Late Shri P B Acharya, the former Governor of Nagaland whose unstinting efforts laid the foundation for the NAMASTE centre. Shri Charudutt Acharya, S/O Late Shri P B Acharya accepted the homage offered and reiterated the need for national integration and encouraged the youth to give back to the nation through their education and service. Prof Dr Shantaram Shetty, Pro Chancellor, Nitte DU and Prof Dr M S Moodithaya, Vice chancellor, Nitte DU were also present.

The conference  aims to provide a platform for scientific collaborations to discuss and deliberate issues and challenges pertaining to health, food and environment in NE India and approaches to mitigate these challenges. The scientific sessions will focus on five major themes: Health Science, Environment and Ecology, Traditional Fermented Foods & Beverages, Food Security and Ethnic Health Practices. A Symposium on Fish for Nutrition Security and Health is scheduled for 2 March 2024 .Over 20 speakers from various Nort East states of India will provide valuable insights into prioritizing areas of research. The conference is open to Faculty Members, Scientists, Researchers, Clinicians, Interns, Postdoctoral fellows, PhD scholars, PG and UG students under Medical, Dental, Allied Health, Biological Science, Environmental Science, and Food Science. Over 300 participants have registered for the event. Dr. Praveenkumar Shetty, Director (R & D) Nitte (Deemed to be University) is the Chair, Scientific Committee, Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER and Dean-Faculty of Biological Sciences is Chair of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Gunimala Chakraborty, Head of the Department Mol Genetics & Cancer, NUCSER is the Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the Conference.

A cultural evening to showcase the traditional art forms of the North East states and Karnataka will take place during the evening of 1 March 2024 in the presence of Shri Vivek Alva, Chairman, Alva’s Group of Institutions.

The NAMASTE Centre has conducted certificate programs on NE dialects, collaborative research in health care, solidarity cultural exchange programs for students/faculty and academic opportunities to NE students in the form of scholarships and fellowships.
