Addressing a ‘Tipu Convention’ organized by Universal Welfare Forum (UNIWEF) here on February 7, Thursday, he said  twisting of facts pertaining to Tipu is nothing new. He said it had become a habit for even the British to distort facts pertaining to those who stood against them.

The British feared that India may have many more leaders like Tipu Sultan if his heroics were highlighted, Udaya said. On the uproar that Tipu was a fanatic and he had punished people in Malabar, Coorg and Mangalore, Udaya said this issue should not be viewed from a religious point of view and added Tipu had punished only those who sided with the British.

Dr. C S Dwarakanath, former Chairman, Karnataka Backward Classes Commission who also spoke, while referring to the allegation that Tipu had converted as many as 70,000 people in Coorg,   questioned how it was possible when the British gazetteer of those times stated that Coorg had a population of 50,000.

Abdussalam Puthige, Editor in Chief, Vartha Bharathi, Rafiyuddin Kudroli, President, UNIWEF and several others were present.
