Rahul Gandhi takes on PM Modi, EAM Swaraj, says it’s a ’suit-boot loot’ government

New Delhi: June 16,2015:  As the controversy over former IPL chief Lalit Modi’s travel documents refuses to settle down, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj once again on Tuesday, demanding the latter’s immediate resignation.

Launching a scathing attack on PM Modi, Rahul said that he was protecting ’accused’ Lalit Modi.

“What else do you expect from the BJP to do than defend its own minister. On one hand PM had assured that he will take firm steps against black money stashed abroad and on the other hand his government is helping people like Lalit Modi who are accused in black money,” he said.

“Didn’t I tell this before that it’s not Sushma Swaraj’s issue, but Narendra Modi’s issue. He is PM who runs the entire nation and he is only protecting Lalit Modi. Earlier, we had said that it’s suit-boot government, but gradually people will learn that it’s suit-boot and loot government,” he added.

Meanwhile, reacting to Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Rajnath Singh’s press conference in the national capital, wherein the two publicly defended Swaraj, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh said, “While talking to media FM had said that every minister is accountable to act on his own. Does it mean that he isn’t sharing decision taken by EAM by itself. You may call it any shade of blue, but the fact is that Lalit Modi has been issued a blue-corner notice. This means that he is an accused. PM must clarify whether he approves of Sushma Swaraj’s action, or he doesn’t.”

“We are raising question on Sushma Swaraj who had herself sent an email to a British MP to help Lalit Modi with his passport. Hence, it’s her responsibility to resign,” he added.

“I want to make it clear that all allegations (against EAM) are baseless. What she did was in good intentions, she acted bona fide. The whole party and the government are one on it, on which there should be no doubt” Jaitley said today in the press conference.

Jaitley emphasised that all the "ministers are capable of taking decisions and whatever decisions they take, we take it collectively, the government backs them.”

Further, dragging Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje into the controversy, Singh said that in the papers given out by Lalit Modi’s lawyers, there was a letter from Raje also.

“If this revelation comes out in public then the matter would get more grave,” he added.
