New Delhi, Sep 26, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (September 26, 2025) launched Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, and transferred ₹10,000 each to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women. He also scaled up his attack on the RJD, stating that under its rule, women of Bihar suffered immensely, while calling upon them to ensure that the Lalu Prasad-led party and its allies never returned to power in the eastern state.

The ₹7,500-crore scheme, an initiative of Bihar’s NDA government, is aimed at promoting women’s empowerment through self-employment and livelihood opportunities. The launch of the scheme assumes significance ahead of the upcoming assembly polls in the state.

“Women of Bihar suffered a lot under the RJD rule... There were no roads, law and order was pathetic... but now women feel safe and secure under the Nitish Kumar government as the rule of law prevails. Hence, they must ensure that RJD and its allies never return to power,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister was virtually addressing Bihar’s women after launching the scheme through video conference from Delhi. He was joined by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his deputy Samrat Choudhary and other Ministers. A large number of women of the state also joined it virtually.

Stressing that the NDA government in Bihar was working for women empowerment, he said that the State would soon have the maximum number of ‘Lakhpati Didis’ in the country.

He said that the 75 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme would receive an additional Rs 2 lakh and training for improvement in entrepreneurial skills.

“Bihar’s women now have two brothers, Nitish and Modi, who are working tirelessly for their betterment,” he said.

Mr. Modi said that initiatives such as Ujjwala Yojana, free ration to 8.5 crore people of Bihar and Ayushman Bharat have improved the lives of residents of the state.

"Under the scheme, financial assistance will be provided to one woman from each family, for livelihood activities of their choice, fostering economic independence and social empowerment," an official statement said here.

Each beneficiary will receive an initial grant of ₹10,000 via direct benefit transfer, with the possibility of additional financial support of up to ₹2 lakh in subsequent phases. The assistance can be utilised in areas of the beneficiary’s choice, including agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, and other small-scale enterprises, the statement added.

"The scheme is community driven in which... along with financial support, community resource persons connected to self-help groups will provide training to support their (women) endeavour. To support the sale of their produce, Gramin haat bazaars will be further developed in the state," it added.
