Mangaluru, Sep 26, 2025: During the Dasara festivities at Kudroli Temple, a video has gone viral showing a traffic police officer dragging an autorickshaw driver by his waist belt, sparking widespread outrage among drivers.
On the night of September 24 at around 9:30 pm, autorickshaw driver Shailesh (28) was allegedly obstructing public road traffic near the main entrance of Kudroli Temple. Police reportedly fined him for the obstruction. In response, Shailesh expressed his frustration, questioning the fine and recording a video on his phone, saying, “Do you know how hard it is to pay Rs. 500? What wrong have I done? I haven’t spoken anything wrong, right?”
During the confrontation, an Assistant Sub-Inspector grabbed him by the waist belt, saying, “I won’t let you go,” and dragged him away. Other autorickshaw drivers gathered at the scene, expressing their anger at the police action. The viral video shows the commotion, with police warning that a case would be filed.
According to authorities, Shailesh later apologized voluntarily and expressed regret over the incident. The driver has been fined under the IMV Act for obstructing traffic and not following police instructions.
