Mangaluru, Mar 3, 2026: The South Western Railway has granted approval to develop the Pandeshwar Level Crossing road into a four-lane stretch, addressing long-standing traffic congestion issues faced by the public, the office of MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta said in a press release.
The release stated that residents of the area have for several years demanded a permanent solution to the severe traffic bottleneck at the Pandeshwar Level Crossing. Recognising the seriousness of the issue, MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta recently directed railway authorities during a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The meeting was attended by MLA Vedavyas Kamath and Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V.
The MP had stressed the urgent need for a lasting solution and instructed officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation and the Railways to jointly prepare a comprehensive report outlining remedial measures. He also directed that the report be uploaded to the official railway portal, stating that it would be a crucial step toward resolving the issue permanently.
Following continuous discussions by the MP with the General Manager of South Western Railway and the Divisional Railway Manager of the Palakkad Division, the railway authorities have now approved the widening of the road within the railway gate limits. An estimate for the widening work will be prepared shortly, and the tender process is expected to commence by the end of March.
Currently, the road under the jurisdiction of the City Corporation is four-lane, while the stretch within railway limits remains two-lane. Once widened, the entire level crossing road will become four-lane, ensuring smoother vehicular movement. Additionally, a ‘double boom’ automatic gate system will be installed to enhance safety. The move is expected to ease traffic congestion and facilitate smooth transportation in the area, the MP’s office said.
