Mangaluru: Lokayukta conducts surprise inspections at nine taluk offices

Mangaluru, Aug 13, 2026: Lokayukta officials from the Mangaluru division conducted simultaneous surprise inspections at the taluk offices in Mangaluru, Puttur, Bantwal, Sullia, Kadaba, Ullal, Moodbidri, Mulki and Belthangady on Wednesday. The inspections continued from morning until evening at several locations.

The inspections were carried out under the leadership of Lokayukta Dinesh B.P., based on suo motu cases registered by the Lokayukta and complaints received from the public. Four Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs), five inspectors and 55 Lokayukta personnel participated in the inspections.

Bantwal

The Lokayukta team made a surprise visit to the Bantwal taluk office and examined records relating to pending applications and cases. Officials collected information from the concerned staff and scrutinised case files, previous orders, disposal of applications and related procedures.

Puttur

At the Puttur taluk office, officials examined file disposal, pending applications and documents related to various cases.

Sullia

The team inspected various sections of the Sullia taluk office and collected details of files, applications received from the public and applications pending without disposal.

Officials also examined a file following a public complaint alleging that land had been granted under Section 94C to three members of the same family in Pambethady and Kuthkunja villages.

The officials collected information from the tahsildar, deputy tahsildar and staff of various sections regarding the number of applications received, disposed of and pending.

They noticed that some files had remained pending for a long time and questioned the staff about the reasons for the delay.

Somanath of Kanakamajalu produced documents on his mobile phone and brought an issue involving a case worker of the 94C section to the attention of the officials. The DySP recorded the relevant case file number, name of the case worker and other details.

Belthangady

At the Belthangady taluk office, the Lokayukta team examined files in various sections, including details of file disposal, pending applications and documents related to cases.

The inspection also reportedly resulted in the faster disposal of some pending work in various sections of the office.

Mulki and Moodbidri

Lokayukta officials conducted surprise inspections at the Mulki and Moodbidri taluk offices, continuing their work until night.

Particular attention was given to files that had remained pending for long periods, recently disposed files and the procedures followed for disposing of applications received from the public.

Officials examined some files on the spot and sought details from staff regarding the relevant documents and procedures followed for disposal.

Some shortcomings in administrative functioning and file management were reportedly noticed.

Ullal

The Lokayukta team visited the Ullal taluk office following several complaints received from the public against the office.

Officials examined files and administrative matters and questioned officers and staff from 11 a.m. until night. They also examined documents relating to long-pending files, land not granted under the Bagair Hukum scheme and complaints alleging that government land had been transferred to private individuals.

Complaints to be examined

During the inspections, some members of the public submitted complaints directly to the Lokayukta officials. These complaints will also be examined, officials said.

The teams inspected various sections of the taluk offices as part of the surprise checks. A detailed report on the inspections will be submitted to the Lokayukta headquarters, officials said.
