Kasargod: Police constable killed in road accident while pursuing drug case accused

Kasargod, Sep 26, 2025: A police constable tragically lost his life early Friday morning while on duty to trace a accused in a drug-related case. The accident occurred at Chengala Fourth Mile, on the outskirts of Kasargod city.

The deceased has been identified as Constable K K Sajeesh (40), a member of a special team led by Bekal DySP. The car in which Sajeesh was travelling collided with a tipper lorry around 2:45 am. Another officer, Subhash Chandra, was injured and is receiving treatment.

According to police reports, the car was entering the service road via an underpass at Chengala Fourth Mile when the tipper lorry, coming from Cherkala towards Kasargod, struck it. Both officers were immediately taken to Chengala Hospital, but Sajeesh succumbed to his injuries.

Earlier, on Thursday evening around 4 pm, Melparamba police had seized 3.28 grams of MDMA and 10.65 grams of ganja being transported in the car. In connection with this case, Ahammed Kabir of Chattanchal was arrested, while the second accused, dentist Dr. Muhammad Suneer of Kannur, was absconding. Police were en route to trace Suneer in the Kasargod area when the accident occurred.

A case has been registered against the tipper lorry driver.

Following a post-mortem at Kasargod General Hospital, Sajeesh’s body will be kept at the district police superintendent’s office for final respects. In the evening, it will be taken to his native village Mayichchi in Cheruvathur for the last rites.
