The Noida dowry murder case pertains to the brutal killing of a woman over dowry demands by her husband and his family members in Greater Noida’s Sirsa village. Nikki was set ablaze allegedly by her husband in front of her elder sister, who is also married to the same family, and her minor son on August 21. She died of severe burn injuries while on transit route from a private hospital in Noida to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

Based on her sister, Kanchan’s complaint, Nikki’s husband, Vipin, was arrested on Saturday.

The duo got married in 2016, and barely six months into married life, the husband allegedly started torturing Nikki, her family said.

Vipin and his family’s dowry demands were “increasing day by day", despite all their demands being met during the wedding, according to the family.

Expensive items such as gold, Scorpio, Bullet bike were given as dowry to Vipin, yet he demanded Rs 36 lakh almost nine years after marriage and allegedly harassed Nikki for the same.

On Thursday, the murder took place after an altercation between the couple over her posting reels on Instagram and her desire to reopen a beauty parlour she previously ran, a police interrogation of the accused revealed, according to a report in Hindustan Times.

“Investigation revealed that around 3.30 pm, Nikki told Vipin that she and her sister would reopen the parlour. When he refused, Nikki said that no one could stop them from reopening, which Bhati opposed. Vipin told her that in their family, posting reels on Instagram and running a parlour were not allowed. The issue turned ugly, and he started assaulting her," Kasna station house officer Dharmendra Shukla said, HT reported.
