‘Sangon Mugdana’ regales the Sharjah audiences

Sharjah, 26 February 2011: Sangon Mugdana, a hilarious Konkani play written and directed by Pradeep Barboza, Paladka was staged in parish hall of Sharjah St.Michaels Church and it was successful in captivating the hearts of Konkani theatre lovers of Sharjah. With some brilliant performances from the artists, comic timings & complimenting beautiful arrangements by SMMKC members made sure that the attended theatre lovers had a feast of entertainment. It was a welcome change - a time to laugh it out to be away from hassles of routine stressful life of UAE.

Sangon Mugdana play was staged on the occasion of inauguration of St. Michaels Mangalorean Konkani Committee (SMMKC) lead by well known community leader Uttam Menezes. It was the brain child of Fr.Annie Xavier, parish priest and Fr.Rodson, asst parish priest of Sharjah St.Michaels Catholic Church to unite all the Mangaloreans under one roof.


To mark the inauguration of SMMKC, a stage program was arranged prior to the drama. At 8.30 pm, the choir members team lead by Lancy Carlo started the event with the prayer song. Compere Dinesh Correa then took the stage and called upon the priests Fr.Annie Xavier, Fr.Franky and Fr.Farncis on to the stage. Also the advisors of SMMKC Alfred Dsouza, Mark Denis Dsouza, Charles Aranha, Jochim Menezes and committee members Lancy Carlo, Louis Dsouza and Lawrence Dsouza, Clara Dcunha were called upon the stage. SMMKC co-ordinator Uttam Menezes welcomed all the guests and the gathered public. As a symbol of SMMKC inauguration, lamps were lit by the priest as well as advisors. Fr.Annie Xavier congratulated all the Mangalorean leaders and committee members for taking the initiative and assured every support from him.

Vincent Fernandes, Uttam Menezes and Godwin Dsouza sang a few popular Konkani numbers while the stage was getting ready for the much awaited play Sangon Mugdana.
 

It was at 9.00 pm the play started with the thunderous applause from Konkani Theater lovers and steal the hearts of every attended audience. One could witness superb acting skills and humorous dialogues throughout the 3 hour play. The play focused on community issues and had a blend of comedy and tragedy with mixed emotions in its plot. The direction and the flow of sequences and well co-ordinated synchronization were outstanding.

The cast included well known stage artistes; both young and experienced veterans show cased their flair on stage with their acting.


Background music was provided by talented musician Cyril Baptist. Dance sequences of this play were choreographed by Arun Lobo of Feet Beat dance group Dubai.


This play, well showcased Pradeep Barboza’s love for Konkani theatre and his maturity in handling sensitive social issues. All in all it was a well organized and executed show which won the hearts of every Konkani lover of Sharjah.
